It's unfortunate that one franchised location doing what appears to be the wrong thing puts such a stigma on ALL the shops. What I like about MY Midas is they take me out and SHOW me what's wrong. They've NEVER talked down to me or tried to sell me something I don't need. They even give me estimates for good, better and best repairs! They have been above board, honest and pleasant to deal with. For instance, there was one time when they thought I would need a repair on the rear end of my truck, I didn't hesitate as it's my only means of transportation, the estimate was about $1700.00 (basically a rebuild of the rear differential), I approved the estimate and signed the repair order and went about my day. When I returned to pick up my truck, they had the job done, and the final bill was LESS than $700.00. My truck has been fine since (about 2 years now). They told me that I didn't need ALL of the parts they estimated as there was no damage to them, so they couldn't justify changing them and charging me extra for something I didn't need. This is WHY I go to Midas for EVERYTHING, including oil changes. They could have soaked me for the higher price I had agreed upon, but they didn't, that made me feel like they actually CARE about their customers.
